We have followed Nintendo's invitation to Frankfurt and had the opportunity in the Main metropolis to put the name of the recently announced Switch revision for the first time and also to examine the new docking station something more precisely.
The big star is undoubtedly the new OLED screen. And just like premium models in the TV segment or smartphone displays, which are equipped with an OLED panel, the benefits jump into the eye immediately: the colors are strong, the black is perfect and the entire picture is already alone through the Excellent contrast brighter than the current model. The difference becomes particularly clear when you put both switch versions directly next to each other while running the same games. Just like an OLED TV, you almost do not want to return to the old model after you have experienced the revision once in action - quickly you then miss the view of the comparatively pale picture this bright glowing color splendor that you have experienced before.
And not only that: In fact, the OLED model also drops the black edge in the 7-inch display smaller and the visible image section correspondingly slightly larger and allows a good look at the events rather unfavorable angles. In addition, the significantly wider stand on the back now offers a much better grip than the small flap in the original version, where you had the fear at any time, it could cancel every moment. In addition, the new approach of the angles in table operation can now be continuously adapted to their own preferences. All this is only relevant if you use the switch primarily as a handheld, because in docking operation, in the face of the same installed technology, nothing changes - the hopes for a pro model with more power and a 4K output can be the OLED Not yet redeem variant.

Nevertheless, the new model also brings a few advantages for stationary operation: With 64GB, the internal memory drops twice as big as before, but with external microSD cards can be additionally expanded. In addition, a LAN adapter is installed in the new docking station, so that you are no longer dependent on a potentially bumpy WLAN, but it is also supported. However, one of the USB ports had to go behind the flap that can now be removed completely.
In addition, Nintendo has made more small but fine adjustments: At the bottom of the handheld can be found in the new model small gumminoppen, which not only improve the stop on the table, but also placing the placement in the docking station more enjoyable shaping By the way, now also attract with a rubberized surface at the bottom and thereby can be placed even non-slip. From the new speakers, we could not recover any meaningful impressions due to the noise level of the environment and lack of comparison possibilities.

By the way, you will also be able to purchase the new docking station with built-in LAN connection separately - but not in regular trade, but only directly via Nintendo. The battery life should correspond approximately to what the last and already revised switch model had to offer in this regard. Whereby the detention capacity of the battery is known to be dependent on the plays used and other factors such as the set screen brightness, WLAN use, etc.
The first impression of the new model is definitely positive: Already in the TV area I have been an interested OLED fan for a few years and the increase in image quality jumps immediately. Nice also that Nintendo has operated a subtle but meaningful fine tuning next to the display in other areas. Of course, the new screen is actually interesting only for the target group, the switch uses mainly as a handheld. And although there is still a small disappointment that Nintendo has not donated his OLED model even more hardware power for the TV operation, you get a chic revision on October 8, with colorful tracks like Mario Kart 8 , Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the game shine in a new glow when you play them on the way.
