The Formula 1 Commission met April 26, 2022 in London and discussed possible changes in the rules. Among other things, more sprint races, smaller cars and helmet cameras were proposed.
The commission, led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulvam, proposes six sprint races per season. At the moment there are only three sessions over 100 kilometers per year, in which the fastest driver gets eight points for the World Cup ranking and can start all over in the Grand Prix. This is then continued in a descending form.
This change proposal is supported by the teams and Formula 1. However, the consent of the World Association FIA is still missing for implementation. The effects on the activities on the stick and the staff are to be assessed here. There was a similar plan the previous year. However, this was rejected by Formula 1 due to the stress of the teams, for example through material wear or additional work by the technicians.
Another plan, this time for 2026, should provide for smaller cars. The reason for this is the changed engines to which the cars have to adapt. In contrast, mandatory helmet cameras are probably an innovation from 2023, which only has to be approved by the World Motor Sports Council. No agreement was reached when asked about a replacement location for the Russia race at the end of September. This was not approved because of the Ukraine War.
