The German U17 juniors were eliminated after a gripping penalty thriller in the quarter-finals of the European Football Championship. The selection of coach Marc-Patrick Meister was eliminated in the Haberfeld stadium in Rischon Lezion in Israel despite a 2-0 lead in the duel from the point at the end with 3: 4 in a penalty shootout against France.
After a regular season it was 1: 1 (1: 1). Tom Saettel from Racing Strasbourg had made the French deservedly in the lead (19th minute). With a lifter, Nelson Weiper from FSV Mainz 05 equalized before the break (38th). In the semi-finals on Sunday, Spain or Portugal are the opponent for the French. The final will take place on June 1st in Netany.
In the years 2020 and 2021, the tournaments in this age group were canceled because of the corona pandemic. Before that, the German selection in 2018 and 2019 was eliminated in the preliminary round. Germany celebrated the last title among the U17 juniors in 2009.
