The Dutch football professional Rick van Drongelen was involved in a fatal traffic accident. As its current club KV Mechelen announced on Wednesday, the driver of the other vehicle was killed.
Van Drongelen, who runs as a loan from Union Berlin for Mechelen, was admitted to a hospital according to club information.
"We learned that the accident occurred this morning when Rick was on the way to training," said Mechelen's sports director Tom Caluwe: "Rick himself was taken to the hospital. At first glance, but further medical examinations should bring clarity. "
Details on the accident are not yet known, the Dutch police have initiated an investigation. "We want to express our condolences to the victim's family," said Caluwe. Before moving to Union Berlin last summer, Van Drongelen played for Hamburger SV from 2017. In winter, the central defender was awarded to Mechelen.
